Mallory & Nicolas wanted to create an accessible destination wedding experience with their closest family and friends. They selected A Matter of Taste, a Northern Michigan Wedding Venue. In Mallory’s words, “the home-like setting reminded her of the charming wedding in “Father of the Bride”.”

Their guests were encouraged to dress colorfully for a “Formal Garden Party”. I loved seeing all the vibrant colors and floral patterns mingled among hydrangea bushes, lush grass and willow trees. Bamboo fans and mint juleps greeted the guests upon arrival, a welcome gesture on a hot summer day.

When high school sweethearts marry, it hits different. It was especially poignant when Mallory’s father escorted her down the aisle to Nic’s wide grin and teary eyes. I can’t imagine the range of emotions that each witness felt, with so much history shared by both sides of the aisle.

Michigan served up some bizarre weather curveballs; it was one of the hottest days of the summer, sun-soaked until an evening storm passed through. This is where I get on my little soapbox about the importance of hiring a Wedding Planner and capable vendor team. The rain rolled in, forcing the vendor team to quickly confer and pivot to move the outdoor DJ set up and dance floor under the shelter of the tent. While the floor was rearranged, the guests moved out to witness the couple’s first dance under threatening skies. I was so grateful for how Up North Events, The Elysium Experience, and A Matter of Taste, and my team worked together to pivot and ensure the guests’ experience was uninterrupted while we scrambled behind the scenes to move furniture, equipment, and lighting.
After the sun went down, the party ramped up with electric energy. Great job, Elysium!
